Liza Pugh-Nicholson, MSM, CIRS-A/D
Liza Pugh-Nicholson is the Chapter Director of the Younger Women’s Task Force of Tuscaloosa. She is a member of several social and professional organizations: The National Association of Professional Women, The American Association of University Women, An Affiliate of The Alabama Research and Institute on Aging at the University of Alabama, Alliance and Information Referral Systems Member, MOMENTUM Leaders Project and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She has earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of West Alabama and a Master of Science in Healthcare Management from Troy University. Her professional background focuses on Management, Social Services and Healthcare. She is also Certified in Legal/Ethical Healthcare Issues and serves as a Certified Application Counselor/Trainer and Notary Public for the State of Alabama.
The Tuscaloosa Chapter of the Younger Women’s Task Force was established to promote awareness of women’s rights and provide personal and professional support for younger women in the Tuscaloosa/West Alabama area.

Director of Finance:
Shjuan D. Crockett, CRNP, FNP-C
Shjuan Pickett is an Alabama native and one of the co-founders of the YWTF of Tuscaloosa where she currently serves as the Director of Finance on the board of directors. Shjuan holds several college degrees including: an Associate’s in Nursing from the University of West Alabama, a Bachelor’s in Nursing from the University of Alabama, and a Master’s in Nursing with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner from Samford University. She currently holds an FNP certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Shjuan is an active member of several social and professional organizations including: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Professionally, she has spent her career in the primary and rural healthcare setting with healthcare management and healthcare provider experience. Shjuan enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, and cooking in her spare time.
Director of Operations
Melanie S. Brunner, MSW, LGSW
Melanie Brunner serves as the Director of Operations. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama School of Social Work in 2005. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Social Work with a concentration in Adults and their Families and an emphasis in Program Planning and Agency Administration. In her career, she has pursued her passion for working to improve the health and well-being of the aging population and their caregivers and has worked with various community agencies that shared her same passion.
In addition to her YWTF membership, she is also a member of the National Association of Social Workers. She is active in community civic organizations and enjoys reading, travel, and spending time with family and friends.
Director of Programs & Events
Barbara Gilbert, MSN, RN
Barbara Miller serves as the Director of Programs and Events. She is a Master’s degree prepared Registered Nurse specializing in Nursing Education with nearly ten years of nursing experience. She is a mother of two children, Marcus Harris, Jr, 8 and Leah Faith Harris, 5. A native of Greene County, but currently resides in Tuscaloosa County. Her professional background includes Med-surgical nursing of the float pool, Hospice Case Management and Clinical Research Nursing. Her greatest accomplishments include the birth of her children and serving as a West Alabama Clinical Research Nurse with sub-specialties in Chemo/Radiation Therapy, Clinic and Phone Nursing as well as being a Patient Navigator for breast cancer patients.
